Magic mushroom microdoses are increasingly popular for people seeking to improve their work, mood or mental health. They’re also a key ingredient in psychedelic-assisted therapy, which shows promise in treating depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Despite the fact that large doses of psilocybin can cause dramatic alterations in perception and a ‘bad trip’, people using microdoses are aiming for a more subtle effect: one that boosts creativity and productivity but avoids the hallucinatory side effects.

All About Magic Mushroom Microdoses: A Safe Approach

In order to understand what’s going on with’microdosing’ we spoke to Russell Newcombe, aka Dr Nuke, an expert in drug use, harm reduction and policy. He explains that it’s important to know how to prepare and consume shrooms safely, especially since many of the mushrooms available online are likely to be fake or too strong.

It’s also important to understand the effects of different strains and dosages, as even a small amount can produce noticeable changes in perception. Music may sound clearer, colours can become more vivid or some people will see fractals or other visuals. The effects can last for up to 24 hours.

While it’s difficult to quantify how much of a microdose you need to feel the effects, some research suggests that the benefits outweigh the risks – particularly in people with underlying mental health conditions such as depression or PTSD. However, it’s also important to remember that psilocybin has a reputation for being a dangerous substance and is still illegal in most countries.
